Import Help - Stay Steady
Last updated: 18 October 2026
Stay Steady does not connect to your bank itself. You download a file with your transactions from your bank, and the app reads that file on your device. It can also fetch them from a service you subscribe to: see Fetch your transactions through a service.
Where do I find my file?
These steps work for most banks.
- Sign in to your bank’s website on a computer. Most banks offer the export there and not in their mobile app.
- Open the account and its list of transactions.
- Look for Export, Download or Statements, or for a download icon above the list.
- Choose CSV when the bank offers it. CODA, MT940 and OFX (also called QFX) work too.
- Choose a period. The last 12 months is a good first import.
- Save the file.
Stay Steady cannot read a PDF. A bank’s mobile app often gives PDF statements only. When that is all you find, look on the bank’s website.
Importing the file
Put the file where your device can reach it: iCloud Drive or Google Drive, or send it to yourself.
- iPhone and iPad: in the Journal, tap + and choose Import File.
- Mac: choose Import Statement… (⌘I) and drop the file on the window.
- Android: in the Journal, choose Import file, then Pick a file.
Stay Steady shows what it found before it stores anything. When it is not sure which column holds the date, the amount or the description, it asks you.
Exact steps per bank
We give exact steps only for a bank where someone has walked through them on the bank’s website. For every other bank, the general steps above apply.
Crelan
Confirmed in October 2026. The menu names are the ones Crelan shows in Dutch.
- Sign in to Crelan Online at crelan.be.
- Go to Mijn rekeningen (My accounts).
- Open the account and choose Verrichtingen exporteren (Export transactions).
- Choose CSV (or CODA) and the last 12 months.
- Download the file.
Your bank is not here?
Do you know the steps for your bank? Mail them to apps@dataconsultingservices.net and we add them to this page.
Where to start
- Make your accounts first. In Settings, under Bank Accounts, add each account you want to follow: a current account, a savings account, a credit card. Add the account’s IBAN, and Stay Steady recognises that account’s files by itself.
- Import one file per account. Export each account at your bank and import each file. When the file does not say which account it belongs to, you choose the account in the import screen.
- The order does not matter. You can import the newest months first and older ones later, or the other way round.
- Duplicates are recognised. When two files overlap, or you import the same period twice, Stay Steady skips the transactions it already has.
When it does not work
- The file is not recognised. Check that it is a CSV, CODA, MT940 or OFX file. An Excel file (XLSX) works after you open it and save it as CSV. A PDF does not work.
- The amounts or dates look wrong. Import the file again and check the columns Stay Steady asks about. On a card statement where a purchase is a positive number, turn on Purchases are positive.
- It still fails. The import screen offers Report to support. It prepares a mail with the details of the failure. You can add a masked copy of the file, which you see before you send anything.
