DATA CONSULTING SERVICES

Free Mac menu bar utilities that keep your data on your Mac

Three small utilities for everyday Mac annoyances: lost clipboard text, hard-to-find menu commands, and a battery that drains without telling you why. They are free and run from the menu bar.

You copied something, then copied something else, and the first thing is gone.

Press ⌥V in any app and a small panel next to your pointer shows the text you copied, newest first. Search it, click an entry to put it back on your clipboard, and pin the snippets you need every day so they survive a restart.

Your data:
Text only, kept on your Mac. Unpinned history is forgotten when the app quits.

The command you need is buried five menus deep and you cannot remember where.

Double-tap Command, type a few letters of a menu item and press Return. It searches every menu of the app you are in, shows each item's keyboard shortcut, and ranks the items you use most first.

Your data:
Works offline. Analytics and crash reporting are opt-in and off by default.
Get it:
Direct download (notarized) or Homebrew. Needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Your battery is flat and Activity Monitor has already forgotten what drained it.

Wattson records each app's share of your Mac's energy use every minute and keeps weeks of history you can scroll back through and export as CSV or JSON. It reports shares and trends, not invented watt-hours.

Your data:
Measurements stay in a local database on your Mac. Analytics are opt-in and off by default.
Get it:
Homebrew. Needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later and a one-time admin approval for the recording service.

How they fit together

Each one answers a different question and none needs an account. WhereInClipHistory and WhereInMenu are keyboard shortcuts away (⌥V and a double-tap of Command), so they stay out of your way until you call them. Wattson works the other way round: it records quietly all day, so the evidence is there when you finally ask why the battery is low.
