Summary: Your energy measurements never leave your Mac. Wattson collects nothing about you unless you explicitly turn on “Help improve Wattson” in Settings, which is off by default.

Information Collection

Wattson records which applications use energy on your Mac. This data is stored only on your device, in /Library/Application Support/Wattson/energy.db, and is never uploaded. We cannot see it, and neither can anyone else. Process names, bundle identifiers, file paths and every energy measurement stay local at all times — there is no setting that sends them anywhere.

Optional: Help improve Wattson

Settings contains a switch called Help improve Wattson. It is off by default. While it is off, no analytics or crash-reporting code is started and nothing is transmitted.

If you turn it on, Wattson sends:

  • Anonymous usage analytics via Aptabase (EU-hosted): which app features are used, plus the Wattson version, macOS version, Mac model and your locale. There is no account, no advertising identifier, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
  • Crash and error reports via Sentry (EU-hosted): the technical details of a crash, so we can fix it. IP address collection is explicitly disabled, and usernames and machine names are stripped before sending.

Neither service ever receives your process list, your energy measurements, or any file path. Turning the switch off stops both immediately.

Network Access

Besides the optional feature above, Wattson makes one kind of request:

  • Process identification: if you choose “Identify Process on Web” on a process, Wattson opens a web search in your browser using only the process name and bundle identifier — never file paths or personal information. Nothing happens without your explicit click.

Third-Party Services

Aptabase and Sentry are used only when you opt in, as described above. There are no advertising SDKs and no other third-party services.
